PIN–UP HOME is pleased to present SOAP ON A ROPE, a new edition of handmade soap created by designer and creative director Shayne Oliver. Oliver is the founder and designer of cult label Hood By Air, as well as the creative director of Shayne Oliver Group, which combines a variety of activities that include fashion, art, and music. He also designed Helmut Lang, Diesel, Puma, and Longchamps collections. PIN–UP Home and Oliver’s collaboration represents the designer’s inaugural foray into home or body care.

Inspired by historic “soaps on a rope,” the scented soap references Oliver’s work as a designer in creating an object that, thanks to its integrated cotton rope, appears as if it could be worn as a chain or necklace. This loop and the soap’s slightly oversized scale are intended to put the soap in direct dialogue with the body.

The lively green color, the semi-transparency, and the scent — a combination of oud, orange, vanilla, and tobacco — create an inspirational, practical, and sanitary product. The four “studs” on the soap — reminiscent of those from leather goods — minimize surface contact while lending a distinctive and more ergonomic character.

Designer and PIN–UP HOME Creative Director Ben Ganz worked with Oliver on the soap, packaging, and campaign. “Shayne was very open to the design, and we wanted a straightforward soap bar. It’s a playful take on something quite utilitarian.”

SOAP ON A ROPE is the second project from PIN–UP HOME, following the successful launch of USM NYC BY BEN GANZ, which launched in December 2022. It is the first product directly distributed by pinuphome.com, PIN–UP‘s new shopping platform.

SHAYNE OLIVER
Shayne Oliver is the mind behind Hood By Air, founded in 2006, and Anonymous Club, a creative studio and collective instantiated through clothing, music, events, and residencies. He has been invited as the creative director of Helmut Lang and has created projects for Diesel, Longchamp, and UGG. In addition, he has collaborated with artists and musicians including Arca, Dis, and Fatima Al Qadiri. He’s been recognized with LVMH’s Special Jury Prize (2014) and CFDA’s Swarovski Award for Menswear (2015), and the industry and major publications have widely recognized him as a leading voice in design, as well as the major exponent of the mainstreaming of streetwear across the fashion world. Born in Minnesota, Oliver was raised in Trinidad and Brooklyn.
